Anomalies in teachers’ appointment

SHILLONG: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), probing the alleged anomalies in the appointment of assistant teachers in government lower primary schools in the State, is unlikely to complete the task before the stipulated time.
The Shillong Bench of the Gauhati High Court in its directive had asked the CBI to complete the investigation by February.
“We have begun our investigation into the alleged anomalies,” a senior CBI official informed on Wednesday.
“It would be difficult to say if we would be able to complete the investigation within the stipulated time,” the CBI official said.
The High Court issued this directive while adjudicating on a case of nine writ petitions filed by aggrieved applicants from various pockets of the state after information obtained through the RTI Act, 2005 brought to light various discrepancies and manipulation in the appointment of assistant teachers in 2009-2010.
The State Government earlier had asserted that it would challenge the court’s directive for a CBI inquiry, but no further action on the part of the Government has been reported since then.
