GUWAHATI: The self-styled chairman of the banned Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), Champion Sangma who is all set to walk free on Thursday said that all the remaining GNLA cadres, if there are any, should surrender before the State Government.

Speaking to The Shillong Times today, Sangma said that he wanted all the GNLA militants to come over ground and work for the betterment of society.

Denying the allegations that he had floated the GNLA, he said that he now wanted to work for the betterment of his community and the society as a whole. According to Sangma, first thing he would do now is to get a proper treatment as he was assaulted by UTPs in the jail.

“I feel there was a conspiracy to eliminate me”, he said.

Thanking his lawyer Sujit Dey and his team, Sangma said that he now wanted to spent time with his family and kids. He also said that he has no plans as of now to become a politician.

Sangma who was arrested along the Indo-Bangla border in the year 2012 was in custody for 5-and-a-half years. The Supreme Court few days back had ordered for his immediate release
