GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi during his maiden visit to newly-created West Karbi Anglong district on Thursday , made an appeal to all the law enforcing agencies to work in unison, displaying the highest order of coordination to curb the menace of insurgency, extortion in the backward district.
Chairing a meeting with all the law enforcing agencies and high ups of the district administration at the conference hall of circuit house in Hamren , Governor said that there should be synergy among all the law enforcing agencies and their coordinated efforts can wipe out the evils insurgency in the hill district.
He said that whatever insurgent groups were active in the district, could be neutralized through putting spanner on their extortion activities. He also said that violence could never bring any solution and therefore, asked all the disgruntled groups to hammer out all the differences through discussions. He also hailed the role of the security agencies to put insurgents and their activities to the brink in the district.
The Governor appeared to have been moved by the forest cover of the district and asked the forest department to protect the forest and remove all alleged encroachments. He also said that the greeneries of the district added to its pristine beauty and asked the forest department to work in close coordination with the district administration to preserve the beauty of the district. He also asked Deputy Commissioner to explore the verdant tourism potentials of the district and create tourism avenues for outsiders to come to the district and relish its beauty.
The governor also asked the district administration to plug the gap between healthcare needs and the existing facilities in the district. He said considering West Karbi Anglong being the new district and healthcare facilities were not up to the mark, an urgent intervention was the need of the hour to provide an affordable, accessible and accountable health care facilities to its people.
