SHILLONG: The 14th state conference of the Community Party of India (CPI), Meghalaya State Council held at CPI office in city on March 22 discussed the issue of ban on coal mining in Meghalaya.
The party also demanded proper survey of land in Meghalaya for the purpose of preparation of records of rights.
The conference was held as part of preparation of the National Party Conference of CPI to be held in Kollam (Kerala) from April 26 to 29. The state conference was attended by delegates from Khasi Hills as well Garo Hills.
The meeting was addressed among others by Binoy Viswam, National Executive Member (Ex Forest Minister, Kerala), Munin Mohanta (Ex MLA, Assam), National Council Member and veteran leader Rabin Rema.
The conference elected a 13 member new state council with Samudra Gupta as secretary and Richard Thaba as assistant secretary. The conference discussed various issues including strengthening of the party.
