No KHNAM candidate in JH council polls

SHILLONG: The chairman of Central Election Committee (CEC) of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), James Nongneng said that the party has not decided to field candidates in Jaintia Hills for the 2019 Council Elections.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “We are eyeing Jaintia Hills but the CEC has not yet decided to field any candidate from Jaintia Hills. However, we hope to discuss the matter in the coming meeting of the CEC.”
Speaking about ticket allotment, he said that the decision to allot ticket is up to the CEC even as he stated that all who ask for ticket may not get as it is up to the scrutiny of the election committee. According to Nongneng, KHNAM will take up the issues which are the urgent need of the indigenous community and the state as a whole.
Harassment of Umru residents
KHNAM said they will take up the issue of the harassment of Umru residents at Tyrso Umru, under Mawhati constituency with the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. Nongneng said the Assam government has started harassing the people again after the Assembly elections. “We will soon make an appointment with the CM and discuss about the issue,” he said.
