SHILLONG: The UDP has asked the State Government to revive highway patrol even as sought creation of a separate traffic cell for national highways.

“We would like the State Government to revive the highway patrol to regulate the traffic along the National Highway,” UDP spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh said in a statement on Thursday.

He also demanded the Government to create a separate traffic cell with sufficient manpower and vehicles at the earliest for all national highways.

Lyngdoh also suggested that the Government must adopt zero tolerance policy towards rash driving to curb road accidents.
