TURA: The West Garo Hills district administration has taken a serious note regarding the rising number of private and unregulated nursery and kindergarten schools which have established themselves in many localities of Tura causing large-scale traffic congestion in the town.
Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh has decided to act following a meeting which was held to discuss the traffic woes of the town in which all stakeholders who took part emphasized that one of the main reasons was the coming up of private schools without any regulation in many of the congested localities.
An order has been given out to the Tura Municipal Board directing it to internally discuss and finalize a plan of action on the specific issues and submit a detailed report to the deputy commissioner within fifteen days.
It was found that many of these schools were not in the notice of the police, fire department, Tura Municipal Board, education department, District child protection officer and ICDS staff.
It was also pointed out that these schools which cater to children between the ages of 3 to 6 are managed by teachers and staff who are not well trained in the specific needs to handle children of that particular age group.
Many of the schools operate from private residential homes without basic requirements such as a playground and qualified teachers.
Some of the recently established kindergarten schools have allegedly gone to the extent of taking annual fees which cost over ten thousand rupees per student despite having the most rudimentary equipment and untrained staff to mentor the young minds.
