Mock earthquake drill conducted at Marba Hub

SHILLONG: To inculcate a culture of preparedness among the community and first responders and facilitate the district administration in reviewing adequacy and efficacy of the Disaster Management Plan of the district, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills, on Saturday conducted a mock drill on earthquake scenario in the event of an earthquake of  magnitude 7.5 on Ritcher scale at Marba Hub, Police Bazar, in the city.

The exercise was carried out as per the Incident Response System (IRS), a mechanism which response through a well-conceived team which consist of the Incident Commander and the teams from the Operation, Planning and Logistic sections under the control and command of the Responsible Officer (RO) who is the Deputy Commissioner of the District.

The Mock exercise was participated by the departments of Police, Health, Civil Defence and Home Guard, PWD, Fire and Emergency Services, Information and Public Relations, Power, EMRI 108, among others. The volunteers from the Indian Red Cross Society, Marba Hub, Glory Plaza and Hotel Centre Point also participated in the exercise.

After the exercise, debriefing was carried out under the Chairmanship of the Incident Commander, I.Majaw, ADC, East Khasi Hills and CEO, DDMA attended by Safety Officer, Liaison Officer, Information and  Media Officer and all the teams leaders from the Operation, Planning and Logistic sections to review the whole exercise and discuss areas where improvements can be made.
