SHILLONG: The construction of the new Assembly building is set to be delayed due to paucity of fund.
There is no fund allocated for the construction of the new building in the Budget for 2018-19.
An official source said without fund allocation, the construction of the Assembly will take more time.
The new High Power Committee (HPC) headed by Speaker Donkupar Roy is yet to have its first meeting to discuss the matter.
After the tender for the project was cancelled, the HPC may opt for re-tendering.
Last November, the HPC cancelled the tender after one of the bidders, Gautam Construction, quoted 15.01 per cent less than the bid value of Rs 105 crore.
It has been 17 long years since the heritage Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building located at Khyndailad was reduced to ashes in January 2001.
