SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) has finally started the process of scrutinising textbooks.
Official sources said on Monday the scrutiny is not only for errors but also to rectify mistakes in translation.
The board had to face severe criticisms after numerous mistakes, including factual errors about Khasi tradition and culture, were spotted in several textbooks. The sources said all errors will be rectified before reprinting.
When asked, the officials said MBoSE has its own team of experts which includes academicians, head of institutes and examiners. Besides, it is also welcoming feedback from other quarters.
To a question, the officials replied that even textbooks printed by the National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT) have errors in their first edition and that “errors do tend to occur in the first edition of any textbook”.
On December 6 last year, the Punjab and Haryana High Court, acting on a petition, had directed NCERT to take a call on the representation highlighting 17 errors in Biology textbooks of classes XI and XII within six weeks.
