HC rejects bail plea of Rakesh Pal

GUWAHATI:  Gauhati High Court once again rejected bail plea of former Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) chairman, Rakesh Pal  in connection with a job scam case registered with Bhangagarh police station in the city.

The former APSC chief was arrested in connection with the massive ‘jobs-for-cash’ scandal that rocked the institution  during his tenue as its chairman. The case is under investigation by a special team of Dibrugarh district Police after a lady doctor who denied to pay money to a middleman pf Rakesh Pal for a job, had blown the lid off the scandal.

The investigation into the scam has so far resulted in dismissal from service and arrest of altogether 31 Assam Civil Service, Assam Police Service and allied services officers in who were recruited by the APSC while Pal was the chairman of the Commission.

Police claimed that forensic examination of handwriting samples of these officers revealed that they wrote their answer scripts anew after the actual written recruitment examination had been conducted by the APSC. The fresh answer scripts were allegedly supplied to them at the behest of Rakesh Pal by his brother who used own a printing press in the city. The brother of the deposed APSC chairman is now absconding.

The police investigation team suspects that huge amount of money were paid by these job aspirants to get the plum government jobs.
