4 Cos of CAPF sought to conduct polls in Williamnagar constituency

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Election department has sought four companies of the Central Armed Paramilitary forces (CAPF) for holding election to the Williamnagar Assembly constituency scheduled for April 27

Chief Electoral Officer, FR Kharkongor on Tuesday said that the request had been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs for sanctioning of the forces.

Kharkongor also informed that a meeting was held recently to discuss about the overall law and order and security scenario of the constituency for holding the elections.

It may be mentioned that the Election to the Williamnagar constituency was adjourned following the death of the NCP candidate, Johnathone Sangma who was killed in an IED blast triggered by suspected GNLA militants.

The NCP is now fielding the widow of Johnathone Sangma’s , Krinilla R. Marak   who  has already filed her nominations for the election.

Meanwhile, most of the candidates have also started their campaigning in Williamnagar constituency though the campaigning by all the candidates is yet to pick up momentum.

The last date for withdrawal of the nomination is April  13 while the poll will be held on April 27. The counting of votes will take place on May 1  from  8  am.

For the Bypolls, there are as many as  nine candidates including Marcuise N Marak (NPP), Deborah C  Marak (INC), Mahamsing M Sangma (UDP), Sengbath R Marak (Independent ), Lahatson N Marak (Independent ), Santosh R  Marak (BJP), Siljong R Marak (Independent) and Jan N Arengh (Independent) and Krinilla R. Marak    (NCP),

The Williamngar constituency which is represented by Congress MLA Deborah Marak, has a total voters of 32021 including  16567 males and 15454  females .
