GUWAHATI: Blockades in northern Assam against all kinds of materials, including essential commodities, to the NHPC dam site at Gerukamukh in Assam-Arunachal Pradesh continued on Tuesday as KMSS and a host of organisations resumed their NH-52 blockade while another by AASU and others ran parallel.

The Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and several other organisations had on Monday announced of resuming their blockade at two places in North Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts from this morning.

They had suspended the blockade, which had started on December 16, for two days in response to the state government’s appeal to the protestors to create a conducive atmosphere for talks. They are blocking all raw materials and fuel for the dam site.

Meanwhile, the AASU and 13 other organisations have increased their total blockade against NHPC from today.

These groups have been blocking all items, including essential commodities, from reaching the dam site since December 31.

A mass movement has been going on in northern Assam against the 2000 MW Lower Subansiri hydel power project at Gerukamukh, being implemented by the NHPC, against potential devastating downstream effects. (UNI)
