SHILLONG: NPP MLA from Jowai Wailadmiki Shylla raised queries on the congestion in Kiang Nangbah College and urged to upgrade and renovate the college.

He also asked about providing assistance to Thomas Jones Synod College as a solution to decongest Kiang Nangbah Government College to which Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said he could not provide any clarification presently on the matter as college education has to spread in rural areas.

Replying to a supplementary query by Shylla, Rymbui said the current strength of lecturers in Kiang Nangbah College had been able to cater to the need of students.

To address the issue of congestion in the college, Rymbui said construction work was being undertaken in the college under the Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) scheme.

The Education Minister said the plan of the government was to fill up all the posts for the benefit of the students while no government college would come up but Community Colleges would be set up.

Replying to a supplementary query by Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh on the teacher-student ratio, Rymbui said, “The teacher-student ratio will be streamlined.”
