SHILLONG: An activist from Mawsynram has highlighted various issues plaguing the constituency and urged the state government to look into the matter.
In a press communiqué issued on Friday, activist Banshai Marbaniang expressed concern on the rise of educated unemployment in rural areas and added that people in remote areas of Mawsynram Block have no access to proper jobs.
Furthermore, the activist also alleged that the officials of the Mawsynram Block office are irregular on any given day except for weekly market days.
Stressing on the need of upgradation of the Mawsynram Block to Civil Sub-Division, Marbaniang said it will ease the barriers of people of 166 villages in the constituency that await government’s intervention.
Seeking better road connectivity, he said the existing Mawphlang-Balat (MB) Road should be upgraded into a double lane National Highway and demanded renovation of the Mawsynram-Ryngku Border Road to facilitate easier movement of residents and goods and also to avert any calamities.
To deal with the rise in unemployment, he suggested the government to turn to tourism prospects in Mawsynram which is known to receive the world’s highest rainfall and is also home to the world’s longest sandstone cave – Krem Puri located at Laitsohum.
He also urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to follow up on the previous government’s intention of installation of a cable car system between Mawsynram and Sohra.
