SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday forwarded the file related to the appointment of Executive Committee members of the JHADC to the governor for his assent.
This was informed by UDP Jaintia Hills general secretary Kitboklang Nongtdu. He also lauded party president Donkupar Roy for taking up the matter with the chief minister.
The UDP central leadership too appreciated the chief minister’s prompt action.
Earlier, the UDP leadership in Jaintia Hills had threatened to advise the party’s central leaders in Shillong to pull out of the government if the file was not forwarded to the governor.
Sangma said the file reached him only on Friday while UDP president Roy said the problem related to JHADC has been solved.
In a peculiar situation, the JHADC Executive Committee led by UDP’s Moonlight Pariat will have the support of Congress MDCs. BJP has also supported the coalition. This is contrary to the MDA alliance at the state level where there is a non-Congress coalition.
According to Conrad, there is nothing ironical or peculiar about the arrangement at the district council level as in the municipal elections elsewhere in the country, the coalition partners of respective states contest separately. He also said the coalition partners of MDA have different arrangements even in KHADC and added it is the dynamic of politics.
Asked about the role of NPP in JHADC, Conrad said the party MDCs will sit in the opposition.
Earlier in the day, a delegation of MDCs from Jaintia Hills also met the governor seeking his immediate intervention owing to the state government’s delay in forwarding the list of Executive Members.
