SHILLONG: Though UDP is part of the NPP-led MDA Government in the state, the party will walk its own way for the upcoming Williamnagar polls where it has fielded Mahamsing M. Sangma
UDP leader Allan Dkhar said that Mahamsing is prepared for the elections and walking out from it is next to impossible.
It may be mentioned that almost all the parties had fielded their candidates for the Williamnagar by-polls but after the announcement of the results, the UDP , BJP and NPP came together to form the Government and since it was a countermanded election, the candidates cannot withdraw their nominations.
According to Dkhar, the party may have a formal sitting on the issue of Williamngar elections probably on Monday.
As the contesting candidates from the parties who are supporting the MDA government are unable to withdraw their nominations for the by-poll, the coalition partners will not have any common candidate.
The election to Williamnagar Legislative Assembly Constituency was deferred following the death of NCP Candidate, Johnathone Sangma by suspected GNLA militants on February 18, just ten days before the polls were held on February 27.
The nine candidates in the fray are Krinilla Marak (NCP), Marcuise N Marak (NPP), Deborah C Marak (INC), Mahamsing M Sangma (UDP), Sengbath R Marak (Independent ), Lahatson N Marak (Independent ), Santosh R Marak (BJP), Siljong R Marak (Independent) and Jan N Arengh (Independent).
