SHILLONG: Referring to the habit of saving as ‘healthy’, Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said the habit of saving always help people in times of need and financial crisis.

Inaugurating the Laitumkhrah Branch of the UCO Bank at Oakland Road-Laitumkhrah here on Tuesday, Lyngdoh said people especially the urban and rural poor should be aware of the importance of saving saying that it will further help and assist them in time of needs.

The minister also urged the authorities of the United Commercial Bank to come forward in assisting the people of the State to get into the habit saving. “We expect that the bank would extend help the urban poor, so that they too can come up economically”, she added.

Earlier, the Additional General Manager of Guwahati Zonal Office, PG Bhowmik asked the UCO Bank staff to extend the best of services to the customers. “One dissatisfied customer create a very poor image of the bank and similarly one satisfied customer could also spread far and wide the good image of the bank”, he added.

Concerned over the stiff competition among the banks, Bhowmik said the dissatisfied customers could shift to other banks and this is detrimental to the progress of the bank.

It may be mentioned that the UCO Bank has introduced the mobile banking facilities called “Bank On Wheel” for extending the bank services to the rural masses. “UCO Bank has been given the responsibility by the Central Government to cover the villages in the country, which do not have banking facilities so that they too can avail banking facilities in order to improve their economy”, The AGM said.

The headmen of Laitumkhrah locality, Patrick Nongrum, Gordon Bruce, Stephen Nongdhar were also present on the occasion.
