KOHIMA: The Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF), which is making its first entry into Manipur politics by joining in the fray of Manipur State Assembly elections this time, is likely to finalise the list of party candidates today at NPF Manipur office at Senapati here.

According to party sources, NPF central office bearers were scheduled to meet today with the five-member committee which was instituted earlier to look into the election to Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The timing and the venue of the scheduled meeting was not known as the Chief Minister and Naga People’s Front (NPF) leader Neiphiu Rio was reportedly not present in the state and would be arriving from Kolkata on Tuesday.

Altogether 55 out of the total 56 aspiring candidates, including two women who had applied for NPF party ticket from 14 different Assembly Constituencies of Manipur attended a function recently.

All aspiring candidates made a public pledge to remain loyal to the NPF party’s ideologies and support those who would eventually get party tickets.

NPF had convened a meeting of all the aspiring candidates including two from Kuki community recently at Taphou village and were made to sign a pledge to support party official candidates even if they were denied party tickets.

It was learned that the tickets seekers included some sitting MLAs in the current Manipur Legislative Assembly. (UNI)
