AGARTALA: The Dumbur Lake, one of the best tourist destinations of Tripura, is all set to get a new look with the government mulling to transform it into more fascinating tourist spot.
A Chandigarh based Architecture College has already envisaged a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for overall beautification of the Dumbur Lake, 83 km from capital town.
A team of the college has already conducted a power-point video projection on plan before Chief Minister Manik Sarkar early last month.
The DPR proposes to convert all the scattered islands on the huge water bodies into cottages to attract tourists.
The Coconut Island, which has so far appeared as most-fascinated place will be developed by way of extending setting up watch towers, restaurant and public convenience.
Besides, the road in between Jatanbari to Mandirghat should be developed keeping in mind of comfort of tourists.
The Mandirghat, gateway to Dumbur Lake will be developed by way of building stairs leading to the Lake. And lastly, the DPR favours to introduce water sports on the Lake to increase tourist inflow where people still scare to visit.
According to sources, the Chief Minister was convinced with the DPR but expressed reservation over introduction of water sports at least for the first phase.
Chief Minister had told that there would be a possibility of mishap if precautionary measures are not been taken.
Several acres of cultivable land and forest land of the then Amarpur subdivision were submerged to create a lake for the state’s first ever hydro project. Fishermen often found submerged trees while catching fish on the lake.
Sarkar had favoured water sports should be introduced only after verifying all security aspects to ensure free movement of boats.
When contacted, an official of Tripura Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) on Tuesday said that the overall development plan for Dumbur Lake had been initiated. “A Chandigarh based Architecture College has been engaged to upgrade the tourism facilities in and around the Dumbur Lake”, he said.
Apart from Dumbur Lake, there has been an effort to upkeep water bodies of Udaipur and Agartala city to increase tourist inflow in the state.
