SHILLONG: The Megh-alaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) will hold election within the Shella Block Congress Committee (SBCC) on January 5 to finalise candidate for Shella constituency for the Assembly election due in 2013.
Informing this, the party sources on Tuesday said election would be held in 28 units out of total 38 units of SBCC.
Those who have enrolled themselves with the SBCC will be allowed to cast their votes, sources said.
According to the party sources, Shella is one of the constituencies where the MPCC is facing a huge problem in selecting candidate. Three persons are in the fray for the party ticket.
One of them is a young entrepreneur Pynthymmai Chyne, who had contested the last district council election on KHNAM ticket.
Party sources revealed that AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who believes in empowerment of youth, is in favour for allocating ticket to Chyne.
Another aspirant is Jropsing Nongkhlaw, a crorepati, party sources said adding that Nongkhlaw enjoys the backing of several senior leaders including former Chief Minister DD Lapang.
The third ticket aspirant is the ‘Strawberry’ man Leston Wanswett. Wanswett had contested the 2008 Assembly election from the Congress.
