SHILLONG: A massive landslide at Malidor in East Jaintia Hills on Saturday morning affected the traffic movement on the entire road.

Officials constructing the new road said that it was a massive landslide which has affected for nearly 150 meters of the road stretch.

It was informed that the landslide took place at around 11 A.M. due to rain in the area and huge number of vehicles were stuck on both sides.

According to officials, necessary machines and equipment have been deployed in the stretch to clear the area. However, sources said that they would be able open the road for traffic only by Sunday afternoon

It may be mentioned that the road has always been prone to landslides especially during rainy season. There was no casualty and protection of the newly-constructed road was damaged in the incident.

The road connects Meghalaya with Barak valley district of Assam and other states like Tripura and others.
