WILLIAMNAGAR: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday dedicated the victory of the National People’s Party (NPP) in Williamnagar to his father Purno Agitok Sangma, besides the people of Meghalaya and the party.
Expressing his gratitude to the electorate in the East Garo Hills constituency, Sangma said, “This is a not just a victory for Williamnagar but for the people of Meghalaya. I dedicate this victory to the people, the party and my late father Purno Agitok Sangma.”
Talking about the victorious candidate, Marcuise Marak, Sangma said he was an old member of NPP and “has worked hard to strengthen the party”.
“He represents the voice and aspiration of the people of Williamnagar… His experience and leadership qualities will help NPP to further push growth and development in Meghalaya,” added the chief minister, who is also the national president of NPP.
Marak was first elected to the Assembly from Williamnagar in 2008 by defeating then minister Deborah Marak. Five years later, he lost to Deborah.
“I congratulate and thank the people of Williamnagar on behalf of the National People’s Party for having faith in our candidate and the party. On this occasion, as we celebrate the victory of NPP and our candidate, I would like to thank God for being with us in our journey and mission to create a new Meghalaya,” said Sangma on Tuesday.
