SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya on Friday granted six more months to complete the probe into the education scam.
Acting Chief Justice SR Sen examined the application filed by the CBI along with other materials in a sealed cover.
The CBI has cited certain reasons for not completing the investigation by May 2 within the parameter of six months fixed by the Division Bench of the court on November 2 last year.
The court felt that the delay is genuine for proper investigation of the case.
Senior Counsel VK Jindal appearing for the CBI submitted that during the ongoing proceedings of the investigation, new materials are coming up and hence the probe could not be completed within six months.
He also submitted that there was no time frame mentioned by the Apex Court.
“Therefore, in the interest of investigation, the extension of time as sought by the CBI needs to be considered. Accordingly, the prayer of the CBI is allowed and the time for investigation is extended for another six months,” the court said.
