Landslide leaves hundreds stranded on NH-44

SHILLONG: A landslide that occurred on Sunday left hundreds of vehicle stranded on Jowai-Silchar road for more than 12 hours.
The incident took place around 1 am leading to a long queue of stranded vehicles on NH-44.
East Jaintia Hills SP Sylvester Nongtnger said, “The road has been cleared and vehicles can pass now.”
The landslide occurred at Sonapur village in East Jaintia Hills near Sonapur Mandir.
Sources informed it took several hours to clear the road with the help of an earthmover.
The NH-44 not only connects Assam and Meghalaya but also connects the state with Tripura, Mizoram and Barak Valley in southern Assam. There was no report of casualty.
