TURA: The results of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examinations for Science, Commerce and Vocational streams were declared by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) on Thursday.
Sadly, for Garo Hills, only one candidate was able to find a place in the merit list in the Science stream, while none from the region found their names in the Commerce list. Nishtha Barman Hajong of Don Bosco College, Tura was the only one who found a spot securing the sixth position in the Science list.
St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong as usual took the top honours by bagging all the other nine spots in the Science stream including, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and the 10th spots in the Commerce stream. Others who figured in the Commerce list include St Edmund’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong (1st), B B S College, Shillong (3rd), Christian Academy Higher Secondary School, Shillong (6th), St Edmund’s Higher Secondary School (8th) and (10th).
In this year’s Science examination, the district wise pass percentage was- East Khasi Hills (82.78), West Khasi Hills (73.64), Ri-Bhoi (66.14), West Garo Hills (53.77), East Garo Hills (53.33), South Garo Hills (16.67), South West Khasi Hills (74.73), West Jaintia Hills (79.21), East Jaintia Hills (76.27), North Garo Hills (36.92) and South West Garo Hills (53.33).
The district wise percentage in Commerce was- East Khasi Hills (83.50), West Khasi Hills (82.43), Ri-Bhoi (76.27), West Garo Hills (67.19), East Garo Hills (93.75), South West Khasi Hills (80.00), West Jaintia Hills (61.08), East Jaintia Hills (75.93) and North Garo Hills (92.31).
Interestingly, both South and South West Garo Hills recorded zero pass percentages.
