Media barred from revealing identity of rape victim

Shillong: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has restricted all media houses from revealing the identity of rape victim or sexually-abused children which is prohibited under the section 72(1) of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
The commission pointed out that the violator will be punished with imprisonment for a term which may be extended to six months or fine up to Rs two lakh or both.
The notification came after pictures; identity of an 8-year-old minor of Kathua village in Kahsmir was disclosed in some TV channels.
The Act prohibits newspapers, magazines, news-sheet or audio-visual media or any other forms of communication to disclose any inquiry, investigation, judicial procedure, name, address, or school or any other particular which may lead to the identification of the child victim or witness of a crime.
