CM, AG pursue coal issue with Goyal

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Advocate General Amit Kumar met Union Coal Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday to take forward the discussion on resumption of coal mining in the state. The chief minister and the advocate general also held a separate detailed discussion with officials from the Ministry of Coal. The meeting was attended by the additional and the joint secretaries, Union Ministry of Coal. “The discussion to restart coal mining in Meghalaya has progressed positively. The ministry has asked us to work on different modalities, which are being prepared by the state government. A team from the ministry is likely to visit the state soon,” the chief minister said. “All cooperation and support have been extended by the Centre to resolve the ban on coal mining,” he added and termed the talks as “fruitful”. In the last two months, the chief minister had called on the Union coal minister thrice
