SHILLONG: Congress leader Deborah Marak has rubbished allegations that she was responsible for the Williamnagar poll debacle.
In response to the news report regarding the District Congress Committee blaming her for the defeat, Deborah said on Sunday that the complaint was only from Linderson A Sangma, the president of the committee, and not from others.
Linderson in his letter addressed to MPCC on May 9 had blamed Deborah for the loss of seat by saying she distanced herself from the leaders of the party in East Garo Hills.
Curiously, the Block Congress Committee and Deborah had cited the role of Linderson and others in supporting Independent candidate Sengbath Marak and not the official candidate.
Besides Linderson, former MDC Lahitson M Sangma and the newly elected Congress MLA from Tikrikilla constituency, Jimmy D Sangma, were named for campaigning for Independent candidate instead of Deborah.
According to Deborah, Linderson is shifting responsibility to cover up his own misdeeds and hence other leaders of the district are annoyed over his stand.
To a question on the denial of Jimmy about his role, Deborah said the villagers have proof against the leaders who were engaged in anti-party activities during the campaign.
Responding to the allegation that she did not give time for CLP leader Mukul Sangma to campaign for her, Deborah said it was the duty of a separate committee of the MPCC to look after campaign related matter and the responsibility in this regard is not on the candidate alone.
She hoped that the disciplinary action committee of the party would do justice on the anti-party activities.
Recently, the complaint of the Williamnagar Block Congress Committee was forwarded to the disciplinary body.
