AGARTALA: As part of enhanced surveillance, two more BSF battalions have been deployed along the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura which shares 856 km borderline with neighbouring country, official sources said here on Friday.

With this, the deployment along the international border has been increased from 16 to 18 Bn BSF jawans.

The number of Border Out Posts (BOPs) will also be increased from 221 to 245 to ensure full proof security along the international border.

Though there is no threat in security point of view, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) wants to ensure strict vigil along the Indo-Bangla border, said Inspector General (IG) of BSF Tripura Frontier PC Meena here.

Claiming that the deployment of additional troops along the border would increase the dominance of border guards, the IG said, “There are reports of infiltration in some unfenced pockets in the border. To deal with the problem, officials were asked to intensify border vigil by way of laying trap and night patrolling in vulnerable border areas”.

Repots said, of the total 856 km international border, only 164.56 km border line is left out of the barbed wire fencing.

“Construction agencies often faces to carry materials for erection of barbed wire fencing due to hostile geographical condition in some areas in Longtarai Valley, Kanchanpur and Gandacherra subdivision”, he said to a query why fencing work has not been completed yet.

Meena said that the state’s international border would be fully fenced within next one year with the MHA putting emphasis on early completion of the project.

However, he admitted the tardy pace of flood-lighting work along the border.

Only 113 km border has so far been covered with the flood lighting system to ensure effective border management.

“This will also be expatiated in the days to come”, he added.
