SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has set a deadline of 45 days for the task force dealing with the draft education policy to complete its work before the cabinet finally comes up with the policy.
The 21-member task force headed by Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui as chairman held its first meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting aired various suggestions regarding the draft education policy.
Rymbui told reporters after the meeting that since the chief minister wanted the education policy to be completed at the earliest, the task force will have to speed up the matter.
Educationists and experts from the field of education are part of the task force which was notified on March 21.
The duty of the task force is to study the draft and come up with an effective policy.
Rymbui pointed out that the draft policy is silent on fee structure and related issues concerning the private institutions in the state which will also be examined by the task force.
He said after the task force submits its report, the Cabinet will approve the policy.
The education minister deplored that there are not many suggestions coming up which can be included in the education policy.
In this context, Rymbui said one more week’s time will be given for getting suggestions from the public.
