SHILLONG: State Cabinet on Wednesday approved the Meghalaya Regulation of Game of Arrow Shooting and Sale of Teer Ticket Ordinance, 2018.

The Ordinance was approved by the Cabinet since the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Amendment Act   which regulated the game of teer subsumed after the Goods and Service Tax (GST) was rolled out in the state.

“In the absence of an Act to regulate and look into teer, the Ordinance was approved,” Home Minister, James Sangma told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

The Ordinance would look into the matter of issuing license, regulation of the game by way of inspection and monitor and regulate the game.

Sangma also said that the State Government generated a revenue of Rs 10127707 in the year 2014-15 and Rs 17363124 in the year 2015-16

Earlier, Cabinet Minister, Tynsong said that the game was played in the state from a long and the Government came up with the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Amendment Act   but since it has subsumed with the passing of GST, the act was treated as repeal and hence the Government had to come up with the Ordinance.

There are seven organizations authorized by the state government to conduct the arrow shooting in several places of the state.

When asked about the teer counters outside the state, Tynsong said that the department of taxation was asked to come back with suggestion whether fees can be imposed on those teer counters outside the state.
