Body recovered from Assam bound vehicle

SHILLONG: Shillong police on late Wednesday night recovered a body from a vehicle that travelling  to Assam and arrested four persons.

Police said that on Wednesday at about 9.15 PM, during ‘Naka’ checking at Diengpasoh, Police signaled one tourist Tata Sumo (ML-04A-8561) to stop.

Ignoring the Police’s signal, the driver instead  sped away . Police then chased the vehicle and intercepted it at Mawkhanu village but the occupants fled to the nearby jungle.

On checking the vehicle, Police recovered one male body with head injuries which later identified as that of Naresh Rajbongshi (31).

Later, Police detained one of the occupants from the area, while three others gave themselves up. They were identified as Hari Rajbongshi (25), Vicky Baglary (21) Gulzar Hussain (18) and Joydeep Rajbongshi (26).

However, the driver of the Tata Sumo and another occupant are still at large.

During enquiry, they stated that the deceased died due to injuries sustained when a boulder fell on his head while he was working in a quarry at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills and they were taking the deceased to his village at Silbari, Nalbari, Assam.
