SHILLONG:  West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, who is known for taking up unique initiatives, has issued a directive instructing all government and private secondary & higher secondary schools in Tura to adopt the ideology of ‘Learn from a Village’ which was proposed by the West Garo Hills District Administration.
The District Administration, under Project STAR came up with the idea of ‘Learn from a Village (Songadamni Dakbewalrangko Skie Ra’”ani)’ with an aim to provide a comprehensive platform for students especially from urban areas to experience rural life.
The deputy commissioner has informed that the purpose is for students to experience a more comprehensive view of rural life so that they can take up entrepreneurship in rural areas in the future.
The idea also aims to sensitize students on various environmental and social issues.
The DCalso requested each school to identify a village or cluster within 15-20 km as per their convenience and the village profile will be shared by the District Administration as and when the chosen village is intimidated to them. The DC said that the District Administration would also extend necessary assistance to the schools when it comes to selecting a village.
School authorities may take their students to villages as per their convenience at any convenient time, but the trip schedule should be submitted to the District Administration prior to their visit. Every trip should be precluded with a briefing along with the students’ feedback.
This program is also purely voluntary for all schools.
