SPARK awareness on women & child abuse

SHILLONG: With the recent upsurge of crimes against women and children throughout the country, a four day workshop on the theme ‘sensitizing the teachers, community leaders and youths on crimes against women and children: their roles and responsibilities in preventing it’ was organised by SPARK from May 14 to 17 at Mawlynrei, Mawlong and Punjabi Line.
The programme was supported by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District under the Voluntary Action Fund (VAF).
Around 300 participants attended the programme including community leaders, women associations, teachers, youths and students.
The special guests during the programme were C. Lyngdoh, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Theilin Phanbhuh, chairperson, Meghalaya State Commission for Women along with the headman and rangbah dong of Mawlynrei village.
The resource persons for the programme were from Police Department, Social Welfare Department, district Child Protection Unit and Childline.
