MAWKYRWAT: The KSU Umdohlun circle has alleged that contractors repairing the Rangblang-Wahkaji-Phlangdiloin road used only topsoil instead of blacktopping it making the situation worse during rain in the last few weeks.
Dusterwell K Lyngdoh, finance secretary of the KSU circle, said all the contractors have done in the name of repairing was “throw soil over the road”.
“Till now there was no blacktopping of any portion of the road. They repair the road with soil, which has made the condition worse, especially after the rain in the last few weeks. This irresponsible work has created problems for locals,” he said.
The road is being repaired at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore sanctioned by the KHADC.
Quoting KHADC chief executive member PN Syiem, Lyngdoh said the Rs 4.5 crore was the first phase of the Rs 25 crore sanctioned by the council under the Centre’s special assistance scheme.
“The CEM told us that the funds will be released in phases in which the repair will be in the form of blacktopping and not just throwing soil or stones,” Lyngdoh said.
“The fund of Rs.4.5 crore will cover about 8 to 9 kms (of blacktopping) and this will definitely benefit all,” Lyngdoh said, adding that KSU has asked the contractors to speed up the work of blacktopping.
KSU also urged the KHADC project engineer and Syiem to take the matter seriously and “make sure that the funds released in the first phase benefit people”.
