SHILLONG: The Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui instructed the Department to issue advisory on admission to class XI of Higher Secondary Schools to ensure students especially those from rural areas who pass class X, do not have to scramble for admission.

In this connection, the Director School Education & Literacy (DSEL) A. Ch Marak issued letters to the District School Education Officers (DSEOs) of all the 11 districts of the state on May 14, 2018.

The DSEL observed that many Higher Secondary Schools distributed admission forms by giving a short notice of one day or two days thereby giving advantage only to the urban students whereas the students from far flung areas often missed the chance of getting admission forms.

Further, he stated that many institutions resorted to give spot admission to students with high percentage which often only students from urban areas were getting the advantage whereas students from rural areas even though they secured high percentage were put in a disadvantageous position.

Marak maintained that with view to providing equal opportunity and fair play to all categories of students; the DSEOs were directed to issue advisory to all Principals/head of institutions under their respective jurisdiction to distribute admission forms equally amongst students from the urban and rural areas and to monitor the same.
