Bomb attack on Congress office, one injured

IMPHAL: The Coordination Committee, a forum of seven militant organisation on Sunday continued bomb attacks on Congress office as a powerful explosive was found at the party’s head office, BT road. The bomb was safely removed and detonated.

It was feared that the bomb could had been a powerful one which could have caused major damage if detonated. The area was searched and police suspected that it could have been thrown from GM hall, which is adjacent to the Congress office. Security was also beefed up around all Congress offices as the Committee had declared to attack Congress offices.

As Congress party prepare for the Assembly elections scheduled on Jan 28 a bomb was also found near the residence of Dr Ng Bijoy MLA and party candidate for Khurai AC. Suspected militants also resorted to firing at Charangpat, Thoubal district in which a Congress meeting was going on. A man was injured.

During the last few days attacks on Congress offices had increased and police nabbed two militants with arms suspected to be used against Congress workers. (UNI)
