TURA: Rongara-Siju MLA Rakkam A Sangma has urged PWD Minister Prestone Tynsong to look into the early repair of NH-62 in South Garo Hills that has remained in poor condition for the past many decades.
In a memorandum submitted to the minister, the MLA pointed out that the state government had allotted contracts for periodic repairing of the road to several contractors about one and a half years back but that little or no work had been done on the road till date.
The MLA also warned the contractors to begin work within a fortnight or brace for blacklist of the government.
According to the MLA, a total length of 13 km was allotted to MP Agarwal in November 2017, 30 km to Ohme Marak in June 2015, 29 km to J.C. Infra Corporation Ltd in February 2017 and 26 km to CCL in May 2017. While work on the 13 km stretch of road allotted to M.P. Agarwal has been half done, all the rest are even yet to start work on their respective stretches till date.
Even big vehicles like buses find it difficult to ply on the dilapidated stretch and they use the border road to and from Baghmara, the district headquarters. But often BSF prohibits these vehicles from using the road, the MLA said.
