SHLILLONG: As the prevailing law and order situation in the city has turned worse, the State Government has sought five additional companies of central armed paramilitary forces (CAPF) from the centre.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Home Minister James Sangma said that  some of the forces had  already arrived  and they would be deployed strategically

When asked about  the demands,  the Home Minister added that  actions have been taken on their demand and  he hoped agitators would see to it and cease their  activities

Making it clear that the Government will take action against anybody who breaks the law, he said that one of the demand was for the relocation of Sweepers’ Colony   and arrest of those involved in the assault of three local teenagers on Thursday.

“We will engage with all stake holders and find the solution,” he said while adding that one person has been arrested.

The  Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Friday had asked the state government to evict residents from Sweepers’ Colony and sought arrest of all those involved in the assault of three local teenagers on Thursday.

The KSU also wants that those who assaulted the sons and a nephew of the SPTS bus driver should be booked under attempt to murder charge  and Government should also pay compensation to the three victims as well as others who were beaten up by police
