SHILLONG: A Congress Legislature Party meeting will be held on Monday to discuss law and order in the city.
Congress spokesperson HM Shangpliang said on Saturday the newly elected MLA from Ampati, Miani Shira will be welcomed and felicitated on the occasion.
“We will also discuss the law and order situation as there is an urgent need to have normalcy,” Shang-pliang said.
According to the Congress legislator, the issue whether the Congress, which emerged as the single largest party with 21 members, should stake claim or not will also be discussed in the meeting.
The Opposition Chief Whip and Congress legislator PT Sawkmie said the MDA government has failed to maintain law and order in the city.
He also called upon the partners of the MDA coalition — NPP, BJP, UDP, PDF and HSPDP — to put pressure on the government to shift Sweeper Lane to the place where government had already constructed a building. Sawkmie also appealed to all sections of people to maintain normalcy. The UDP state youth wing will meet Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday for an early solution.
Earlier on Friday, an emergency meeting of UDP’s state youth wing was held in the presence of chief adviser of the youth wing, Paul Lyngdoh.
UDP, while condemning the incident at Sweeper Lane, said law and order has affected the economic activities of the people.
