SHILLONG: Former ANVC rebel Bernard N Marak has said employing locals in petrol pumps will reduce cases of hooliganism.
While condemning the assault of employees of a petrol pump in Tura on Saturday, Marak said in a statement to the media that it was “unfortunate” that such “gundagiri” happens in Tura and demanded action.
Miscreants assaulted the employees of Bokmagre petrol pump on Saturday.
“Tura is the home town of the present chief minister and the home minister yet how these culprits remain untamed and free is questionable. The trading communities are under constant fear of these goons,” Marak said.
He also suggested that petrol pumps should employ locals instead of bringing people from outside.
“Employment of locals can curb ‘gundagiri’ and illegal taxes to certain extend,” he said and added that an audience with the deputy commissioner is awaited.
