SHILLONG:A big crowd of agitated protestors stormed the state secretariat in Shillong on Monday afternoon defying curfew thereby exposing the loopholes in the administration in enforcing the curfew effectively. The crowd later left only after a small delegation of them were allowed the meet the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

Meanwhile, night curfew in entire Shillong city has been rescheduled from 4 P.M. to 5 A.M. with effect from Monday in view of the tension prevailing in the area following sporadic violence that affected some parts of the city from Thursday night till Friday night. It was informed by the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District, P S Dkhar on Monday.  Till Sunday the night curfew was imposed from 10 P.M. to5 A.M. next day.

Meanwhile, curfew remains enforced in fourteen vulnerable localities in the city as precautionary measure.   The situation in the city remains under control but tense. The state government has called for an all-party meeting on Monday to discuss the situation prevailing in Shillong and adjacent areas.

No commercial passenger vehicles operated between Guwahati and Shillong on Monday because of the prevailing situation and a strike called by taxi operators demanding protection along the way.
