Miani D Shira takes oath as MLA

SHILLONG: The daughter of former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Miani D Shira was on Tuesday sworn in as the MLA of Ampati constituency here at the Old Assembly premises

The 27 –year-old legislator was administered oath of office by the  Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker,  Dr Donkupar Roy.

Speaking to media persons , Miani D Shira  said that she had stepped into  politics when it was a crucial time for the party, Ampati and even for the state.

She said that her father  had  done a lot for the constituency  and his father started off when there was nothing in the constituency and he had been able to create a lot of infrastructure and development but still a lot needed be done in the constituency

She said that her priority was human resource development and she had identified certain things where she will concentrate as the legislator.

Shira was accompanied by her father and mother and the MLAs of the Congress party.

It may be mentioned that Shira won the Ampati Bypolls after defeating NPP’s Clement G Momin by a margin of 3191  votes.

The Ampati Bypoll  was held after Mukul Sangma who contested the February 27 polls won  the election from both Ampati and Songsak seats and he retained Songsak to pave the way for her daughter to contest the election from Ampati constituency
