SHILLONG: KSU vice president Daniel Khyriem is slated to step into the shoes of the president Samuel Jyrwa, when the powerful Students’ Union holds its general election to elect new office bearers of its Central Executive Committee (CEC) scheduled to be held on Saturday.

Sources on Tuesday revealed that Khyriem is all set to be elected as the KSU president unopposed.

Sources also informed that Nongthymmai KSU Circle president Fredrick Kharmawphlang and Education Secretary Augester Jyrwa are also expected to be elected as the new vice president and general secretary respectively.

Meanwhile, Khyriem informed that the election would be held at Dinam Hall, Jaiaw.

He informed that 21 KSU members have filed their nominations for the eight posts in the CEC, but refused to divulge any details about which posts the candidates were contesting for.

Besides, Khyriem, Kharmawphlang and Jyrwa, other KSU members who have filed their nominations include Bansharai Warjri, Bronson Marius Nongrum, Federick Kharmawphlang,

Robertjone Kharjahrin, Shemphang Lyngdoh Mawphlang, Sonstar Nongkhlaw, Peter J Lawai and Chrison R Surong.

It may be mentioned that Samuel Jyrwa and Hamlet Dohling have both decided not to contest the Union election in order to pave way for the younger leaders to take over.

Rumours are abuzz that Dohling is all set to join active politics as he is seeking to contest the upcoming 2013 Assembly election in the State from Mylliem Constituency most likely on a UDP ticket.

Jyrwa, however, is still silent about his future plan although he has denied that he has any plans of joining active politics in the near future.
