TURA: An FIR has been filed on Tuesday against four defaulting contractors who were in charge of undertaking periodic repairing on stretches of road along NH-62, the highway which connects West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.
The FIR was filed at Baghmara police station by a leader of the Baghmara Citizenship Forum (BCF), Chavan N Sangma, against Ohme Marak of Bongakona, Sibbari, M/S CLL International Limited of Hawakhana in Tura, M/S JC Infra Corporation Ltd from Shillong and MP Agarwal.
As per the FIR, a total length of 100 km of road was allotted and divided between the four contractors for periodic repairs on their respective stretches.
While M/S JC Infra Corporation Ltd has completed 12 km out of the total allotted 29 km, the residents allege that repair work was unsatisfactory.
Another contractor, MP Agarwal has reportedly started the repair work but the same is reportedly not as per the plan of the PWD (Roads).
The other two contractors – Ohme Marak and M/S CLL International Ltd – are yet to start any kind of work.
A rally was organised on Wednesday to demand immediate repair of the said road by the BCF in which, hundreds of residents from Baghmara and its adjoining areas along with members of NGOs like the GSU, ADE, AYWO, Mothers’ Union, FKJGP, Akim Saldora Society and the Baghmara Bazar Committee participated.
Holding banners the protesters marched from Rangku Memorial Higher Secondary School to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office where a memorandum was submitted to the official to be handed over to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
