DBC, Tura shines in Intl Taekwondo tourney

TURA: The taekwondo team of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Tura has once again done the school and Garo Hills proud by winning 5 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze medals in the 4th International Kyorugi and 3rd International Taekwondo Poomsae Championship held from June 2 to 4 at Thimpu in Bhutan.

The athletes who won Gold are Nambea D Marak (Female Cadet U-57 KG, Kyorugi), Patricia A Sangma (Female Cadet U-57 KG, Kyorugi, Female U-15 years, Poomse), Damsel Sangma (Team female U-15 years, Pommsae) and Lastmania Sangma (Female team U-15 years, Poomsae).

The Silver medal winners are Mankam Momin (Male team U-15 years, Poomsae) Gangam B Momin (Male team U-15 years, Poomsae, Male cadet U-45 KG, Kyorugi), Krist Jerixo Marak (Male Team U-15 years, Poomsae), Lastmania T Sangma (Female cadet U-41KG, Kyorugi) and Damsel Ch Sangma (Female cadet U-37KG, Kyorugi). Krist Jeriko Marak was the lone Bronze medal winner. The Coach of the school team, Osmond T Sangma also won two Silver medals.

The Annual Championship was organised by the Bhutan Taekwondo Federation. This is the first time that a school team has won medals in an international competition. The proud medal winners were facilitated by the Principal and teachers during the school Assembly on Wednesday.
