CPI to contest 55 seats

Left parties form alliance with JD(s)

Left parties and Janata Dal (Secular) have entered into alliance to contest 116 seats in UP Assembly polls. Giving this information, CPI state secretary Dr Girish told IPA that there was broad understanding that the political parties would not oppose each other in any constituency. The group of left parties includes CPI, CPM, All India forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP).

Dr Girish informed that CPI will contest 55 seats, CPM 18 seats, Forward Bloc 20 seats, RSP eight seats and Janata Dal (Secular) will field candidates in 15 seats.

Talking about agenda of the left parties and JD(S), Dr Girish said all political parties decided to make alternative economic policies as main issue in these elections. He said that Left parties believed that the there was broad understanding among SP, BSP, Congress and BJP on economic policies.

CPI leader said that Left parties would make inflation, unemployment, corruption and rise in crimes, land acquisition policy and exploitation farmers as main issues during the campaign. Dr Girish said that the Left parties and JD(S) would fight political parties perusing caste and communal politics. CPI leader said that left parties and JD(S) would present an alternative which would be secular and democratic and left in politics to the public in near future.

CPM state secretary SP Kashyap informed that the decision to contest 18 seats was taken at Kanpur convention of the party. CPM leader informed that senior leaders of the party would campaign for party candidates and they would expose Mayawati government on the issues of corruption and land acquisition policies which resulted in exploitation of farmers forcing them to commit suicide.
