High Level Committee asks for land survey in Punjabi Lane area

SHILLONG: The high-level committee (HLC) which has been constituted to find out a permanent solution to the issue of relocating residents of Punjabi Lane (Them Iew Mawlong) has decided to ask the Directorate of Land Records and Survey to immediately conduct an exhaustive land survey of the colony at Them Iew Mawlong.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting of the Committee here on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the Committee had given 10 days’ time to the Directorate of Land Records and Survey to complete the survey of the area

Tynsong who is also the chairman of the committee said that the fresh land survey of the area was required to have a clarity since one portion of the land belonged to the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) while another portion belonged to the Hima Mylliem.

The Directorate of Land Records and Survey is likely to start its land survey from next week.

“We will again meet to decide on our next course of action after the receiving the detailed survey map from the Directorate of Land and Records,” Deputy Chief Minister said.

When asked if any survey was done in the past, Tynsong said that till date, a detailed survey had never been carried out and as of now, the municipal board, the Syiem of Mylliem or the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council did not have a proper detail map of the area.

It was also informed that the Committee was also collecting information on the number of 4th grade employees who are working in various departments and residing in the area.

Tynsong also informed that they had co-opted two new members — Tourism Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh and MLA, Renikton L Tongdkhar into the Committee.
