Shillong situation expected to be fully normal by next week

SHILLONG: The district administration here is expecting that the situation will be fully normal in the capital city by next week.

Talking to media persons here on Saturday, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, PS Dkhar said that situation was coming back to normal in the city and he did not see any more problem in future.

However, police would continue its patrolling and paramilitary forces would be deployed in the city especially in commercial areas to ensure that people could go to those places without any fear

He also said that the entire law and order situation in the city would be examined again on Monday and accordingly decision would be taken whether curfew should be further relaxed further or it should be done away with.

When asked how long the Central Paramilitary  would stay in the city, Dkhar    said that it all depends on the situation and the District Administration was analyzing the situation every day.

Meanwhile, the DC has also warned of strict action against   those shop keepers and retailers in the city who  are raising prices of the essential commodities taking advantage of the situation.

Stating that  there was no shortage of essential items in the city, he said that there  was no reason for retailers and shop keepers to hike prices of essential items.

When asked about the rampant rumour mongering in the city   which often leads to panic, he said that the government had taken a call that the restriction on internet would continue for few days more and the matter would be examined again on Monday.

He also informed that  curfew had been relaxed in areas under Lumdiengjri Police Station, that is, Jaiaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission, Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lamavilla, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment, Mawlong Hat including Cantonment Beat House Areas (excluding localities beyond Umshyrpi bridge) for 11 hours for Sunday with effect from 7.00 A.M. to 6.00 P.M. and is promulgated again with effect from 6.00 P.M. and until further orders.

The administration has also imposed Night Curfew Under Section 144 CrPC from 9:00 P.M. to 5: 00 A.M in Shillong Agglomeration with effect   from Sunday and till further orders.
